MLS Weekend Wrap-up for Sunday 8/24

The MLS weekend roller coaster started early on Wednesday.  The Dynamo extended their lead on RSL by pounding on Chivas with 4 goals in the first half.  Also on Wednesday, Taylor Twellman and NE Revolution pushed past DC United with a 2-1 win.  This is where the roller coaster begins.  On Thursday, Bruce Arena stepped onto the pitch as the new head coach and GM for LA Galaxy.  His team fell to the newly restructured Chicago Fire.  Brian McBride lead the Fire to a 1-0 victory.

4-0 ouch

The teams that won on Wednesday seemed to have spent their energy and could not win later in the weekend.  NE held out for a draw against Toronto, after Twellman’s header goal, Barrett evened it up in the second half.  The Dynamo were beat by NY almost as bad as Houston beat Chivas.  The Red bulls slammed Houston 3-0.  Now NE moves on to CONCACAF games, and lets hope they save up energy for their match against LA next Saturday.  Houston will be home this coming Sunday versus the Fire, and their fire power should be home from international duty.

3-0 ouch

The real highlight of this past weekend is the story about Carlos Ruiz.  I have a strong disdain for this player now.  He has finally pushed me past the nice guy stage.  I started to not like his antics on the field a few years ago, when he would play dirty underneath the defenses.  He would push and pull, and then cry anytime that he was fouled.  As time went on I started watching him take dives over common plays.  On Wednesday night during the Guatemala vs US match his behavior on the field inspired the rest of his team to play the dirtiest game I have ever seen.  Ruiz dragged his foot after missing a shot on goal, and kicked Howard in the face.  His teammate throw an elbow into Eddie Lewis’s forehead and split open a massive cut over his eye.  Throughout the whole game, Ruiz and the Guatemala team pulled out every foul in the book.  I don’t know if Carlos Ruiz’s play caused his move from LA to Toronto, but I can only hope.  Eddie Lewis has been signed by LA as Ruiz steps out, and that is justice for what happened to him.

Goodthings come to good players

Good things come to good players

If you disagree with me, good.  I like to see the game played skillfully, yet aggressive.  You might like the type of gameplay that involves foul after foul, dive after dive.  I think that it takes away to much from the beautiful game, and it makes the sport look bad.

  1. Interesting info on Ruiz. He’s coming to Toronto. Of course we’re only thinking about his goals at this point. Didn’t know about his behaviour. I’ll keep a close eye on this…
