I had the opportunity to meet two very reserved and humble MLS players on Sunday October 6th. Chris Wondolowski and Brad Davis of the Houston Dynamo were waiting for a car to pick them up at Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas. I approached them, and reached my hand out in greeting. They were wearing team polo shirts and did not shy away from public view. I was wearing my Dynamo hat and greeted them with respect. I told them that the team looked great, and wished them continued success. Then I simply walked away. Chris Wondolowski was patting his pockets, I’m assuming to get a pen to sign an autograph. I’m not the autograph kind of guy, signatures get lost or collect dust, it’s the memory that lasts forever. These guys were not at a public event, or at a team event, yet they seemed excited to be noticed and appreciated the attention. The next day I was recalling the story to friends and family, and it got me thinking.
The MLS has yet to have a blemish to its public image from its players. Unlike other sports, MLS players seem to be keeping themselves controlled and reserved. If you do news search for Major League Soccer and crime, all you get is an old story about Jorge Campos’s father being kidnapped in Mexico, he was a the goalkeeper for the Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy. Could it be that our league doesn’t get the news coverage, or maybe our players don’t make enough money to get in that kind of trouble. When you hear about Pacman Jones, of the Dallas Cowboys, fighting his own body guard, or any other football player getting in trouble you don’t even blink. It’s old news now, been there done that. Baseball players and steroids, old news too. MLS has a got a good set of guys, and hope to have not jinxed them.

Nice article – good to see. Nice site. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
